...finding vinyl treasure in the attic

My dad never had much vinyl (I guess with five children his money went elsewhere), but growing up there were a few gems he used to play on his massive two cassette deck, five cd, tuner, turntable monster.

My favourite was always Bob Dylan's Gospel; Bob Dylan's classics gospel style. I think he bought it for my mum, but I'm pretty sure we all though it was ours.

My dad moved house a few years ago and we thought these albums had been lost forever. But no! My big brother and me found them in the new attic the other day. Horray! We fought over who got what; Van Morrison, David Bowie and Simon and Garfunkel for him, and for me The Grateful Dead, Sex Pistols and my beloved Bob Dylan's Gospel. A happy day. Love you Bob.

PS. Cannot wait to play this one to the little guy...

...searching for treasure to feather my nest

Here are a few photos of corners of my bedroom, as you can see it's getting pretty full up with car boot, charity shop finds. The record player is probably one of my favourite possessions it was a gift from my older brother and twin sister last christmas and I use it almost everyday! My record collection is growing and growing. The suitcases were a brilliant find at a car booty at Bath race course, the mirror below was bought for £3 at our local house clearance shop called Treasure Island, it is probably my favourite shop of all! The mirror above my bed is made from collected drift wood from the beach, which I stuck onto a cheap mirror from wilkinsons with brilliant no nails glue! I will post more corners of my flat soon! I would love to see yours, get in contact, it is always fun to nose into other peoples nests for inspiration!

...decorating the house for Autumn

I love to decorate our house with seasonal decorations; painted eggs and little chicks at Easter, twinkling trees and festive cribs at Christmas. I think Autumn might be may favourite time of the year. I love carving pumpkins and making the house cosy for traditions such as bonfire night and trick-or-treating.

This year I was inspired by this lovely blog, and made a leaf garland out of felt and wool.

It was really easy, and I think it looks great hanging over our mantelpiece.

How do you decorate your house for Autumn?

...eating cockles and mussels

If you're stuck for something to do this half term and you're in Dorset  hit the road to Lulworth cove, there is nothing better than a little road trip to the coast. My sister lives in London and can never wait long enough to get in my car and into the countryside. I love a good road trip and Lulworth feels like an adventure, over the toll ferry and across the Purbecks we drive, singing to our favourite songs. It will be  quieter now the holiday rush is over. Don't forget to get a polystyrene cup of fresh cockles!

...telling you a little about us.

Gem

I'm 29 years of age and stepping ever closer to the big 30 in December. I love all things vintage, it must be  my nostalgic soul and love for old photographs and films. I studied film making at art college and still dabble when I can. Me and Maria work together and are constantly nattering about our most recent charity shop bargains or vintage clothes.  We decided a blog would provide a nice creative outlet to share all our interests and stories of our Saturday wombles and general thrifting and fashion chats. Hopefully our blog posts will begin to show you more about what we are all about and what we most love about life! For now I will allow my screen saver to tell you a little about my favourite things! Yes you've guessed it! Bob Dylan, Art - (Picasso bread fingers) Beards, Norwegian Jumpers, Illustration, Wes Anderson Films, and vintage/junk shopping are just a few!

Maria

Hi! My name is Maria. I'm a mother of an energetic and fun 2 year old, and a lover of living by the sea. I like hunting for trinkets and going for coffee and cake in cosy cafes.
